In today’s Saturday Playlist we would like to introduce you to a great music project born in 2002 and created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. This project is called Playing for Change.
Mark Johnson and Whitney Kroenke, Co-Founders, had the idea to hit the streets of America with a mobile recording studio and cameras in search of inspiration.
In 2005 they were walking around Santa Monica, California when they heard the voice of Roger Ridley singing ”Stay By Me”. Mark approached him and told him about the Playing for Change project and about participating in it by singing ”Stand By Me” as a song Around the World.
This is the result:

This video presents a bit of the story of Granda Elliot, a street musician from New Orleans. Grandpa Elliot was discovered in the French Quarter of New Orleand in the Fall of 2005 by Mark and his crew.
In 2010, Playing for Change records in collaboration with Concord Music Group,have resealed Grandpa’s debut album ”sugar sweet”, featuring the Playing for Change band. Check it out:
