Bike vs Cars

Bike vs Cars, you could think this is the title for the new Pixar movie. Better than that! Is the title of a new documentary that will come on 2014. This new film project from BANANAS! and Big Boys Gone Bananas! directed by Fredrik Gertten, looks and investigates the daily global drama in traffic around the world. But is not just a documentary, there is also a great campaign behind it to enforce the bike use among the citizens from all over the world.

The film will follow the individuals around the world that are fighting to create change. We meet Aline at Sao Paulo’s Ciclofaxia, the weekly Sunday ride where one lane of Paulista Avenue is opened for bikes only. Aline is an inspirational person in the city’s bicycle movement, who tries to focus on the positive aspects of being a cyclist. But that can be difficult in a city where one bicyclist is killed every four days. And in Toronto, where mayor Rob Ford strips away the city’s bike lanes in his battle to win the “war on cars,” we watch as members of the Urban Repair Squad infiltrate the streets at night, using spray paint and stencils to replace them.

However, not everything is so happy as it sounds. They need 50 000 USD for post-production and outreach of the film, and it’s message. They also want to go beyond the film, they want to create an app to measure the change by going by bike.

This documentary is addressing a very global issue, so they want people from around the world to get a chance to see it!, So if you want to help them in their quest, here is their website. For the moment, they already have almost 18 000 USD.
